When levees were being built in East Texas a century ago, the workers rebelled at the lack of female companionship. The problem was solved when the project’s bosses brought in women to cook for the men, clean their tents, wash and mend their clothes, and share their beds. Late one night one of the women, known as Dink, mournfully sang this blues. Recorded on Tonight at Eight by The Muse Machine (Muse Machine Recordings)
