Theodore Morse (1873-1924) was the composer of many early 20th century popular songs. His most famous are Dear Old Girl and the widely parodied M-O-T-H-E-R. He created the lyrics of Hail, Hail, The Gang’s All Here, set to a Gilbert and Sullivan chorus from “Pirates of Penzance,” which was itself a parody of Verdi’s “Anvil Chorus”. |
